Yitzchak Peretz

Yitzchak Peretz ( Hebrew יצחק פרץ; * June 3, 1936 in Casablanca , French North Africa in what is now Morocco ; † October 17, 2002 ) was an Israeli politician and member of the Knesset .

Life

Peretz immigrated to Israel in 1950 , where he attended the Mikveh Israel Agricultural College and later the Bar-Ilan University . He then worked from 1957 to 1963 in Rishon LeZion as a teacher.

In 1963 he was elected to Dimona City Councilor and from 1971 to 1974 was Mayor of the city. For the Likud bloc he then sat from 1974 to 1988 as a member of the Knesset . Peretz was from June 28, 1977 to January 15, 1979 in the 9th legislature or 18th government deputy minister for economy and trade under Prime Minister Menachem Begin .
