Jiver Hutchinson

Leslie George "Jiver" Hutchinson (born March 16, 1906 in Jamaica , † November 22, 1959 in Weeting in Norfolk ) was a band leader and jazz trumpeter in Great Britain .

Hutchinson played in the West Indies Regimental Band and with Bertie King in Jamaica before moving to England in 1935. He played in the band of Happy Blake in the Cuba Club and with the Emperor's of Jazz by Leslie Thompson (1901-1987), also from Jamaica, and then in their successor band under Ken "Snakehips" Johnson (1914-1941, he was from) from British Guiana ) from 1936. Various other bands followed, including in 1939 he led his own formation at the Florida Club in London. In 1943/44 he was in Geraldo's band (1904–1974) on tour in the Middle East. In 1944 he founded his own band, which existed until 1949 and with which he toured in India (1945) and Europe (including Scandinavia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands) in addition to Great Britain. He also recorded with his band. 1950 to 1954 and 1954 to 1956 he was again with Geraldo. In late 1952 he accompanied Mary Lou Williams ; from 1956 he led his own groups. In 1959 he died in a car accident in his tour bus.

He is the father of the singer Elaine Delmar (* 1939), who also sang with her father's bands.
