Jivka Ovtcharova

Jivka Ovtcharova or Schiwka Owtscharowa in German ( Bulgarian Живка Овчарова ; born January 11, 1957 ) is a Bulgarian engineering scientist and professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Life

Ovtcharova began studying engineering at the Technical University in Sofia in 1975 and continued this from 1976 in Moscow , where she graduated from the Moscow Energy Institute in 1982. In 1983 she became a research assistant at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . From October 1987 she worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (Fraunhofer-IGD) in Darmstadt and received her doctorate in 1992 as a doctor of technical sciences in Sofia and in 1996 a second time in computer graphics at the Technical University of Darmstadt . Between 1998 and 2003 she was employed as head of department at Adam Opel GmbH in international projects for the General Motors group. In October 2003 she returned to research at the Technical University of Karlsruhe as head of the institute for information management in engineering. She has held a professorship at what is now the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since 2003 and has also been the director of the Karlsruhe Research Center for Information Technology (FZI) since 2004 .

In 2011 the Technical University of Sofia awarded her an honorary doctorate.
