Jizchak Blaser

Jizchak Blaser , also Itzele Peterburger (born 1837 in Vilnius , Kaunas governorate , Russian Empire ; died 1907 in Jerusalem , Palestine ) was a Russian chief rabbi of St. Petersburg (1861 / 62-1880) and an important representative of the Orthodox Mussar Movement in Lithuania .

Life

Blaser became a student of Israel Salanter , the founder of the Mussar movement .

In 1861/62 he became Chief Rabbi of St. Petersburg . Since 1880 he headed the Kollel of the Musar movement in Kaunas (Kovno). In 1890, after disagreements, he had to relinquish responsibility for the Kollel's cash register.

In 1902 he immigrated to Eretz Israel , where he died in 1907.
