João Augusto de Médicis

João Augusto de Médicis (born August 18, 1936 in Recife , † April 14, 2004 in Rome ) was a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

João Augusto de Médicis was married to the journalist Adriana Zarvos; they had five children. After joining the foreign service, he was employed by the United Nations. In Port-au-Prince he was charge d'affaires . He was deployed as ambassador to Nairobi (1984–1989), Warsaw (1991–1993), Beijing (1994–1996) and Santiago de Chile (1999–2002). Since 2003 he has represented the Brazilian government at the FAO .

From 2002 to 2004 he was Secretary General of the Community of Portuguese- Speaking Countries (CPLP).

De Médicis was killed in a traffic accident in 2004.
