João Fiadeiro

João Fiadeiro (* 1965 in Paris , France ) is a Portuguese ballet dancer, choreographer and dance theorist. He is an outstanding exponent of Nova Dança Portuguesa .

Life

Joao Fiadeiro was born in Paris as the son of refugees from the fascist dictatorship of Salazar . He spent his childhood in Algeria , El Salvador and Brazil until his return to Portugal in 1972 .

From 1983 to 1988 he studied dance at the Academy for Dance and Ballet of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon . In New York , where he lived for a few months in 1988, he discovered the post-modern American dance of Trisha Brown , Steve Paxton and David Gordon . In 1989 he came to West Berlin , where he was initiated into the composition method of the Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus under Dieter Heitkamp and Howard Sonnenklar.

He made his first experiences as a dancer and choreographer from 1986 to 1988 with the Companhia de Dança de Lisboa . From 1989 to 1990 he was a member of the Gulbenkian Foundation dance ensemble. He was also involved in the Portuguese feature film " Ao fim da noite ", 1991, as a choreographer .

In 1990 he founded his own dance and ballet ensemble " RE.AL ", which initially mainly produced and performed his own productions. Later it was also used to introduce students to his own dance compositions and theories in workshops in Portugal and abroad and to promote young dancers.

He was also a lecturer at various dance academies and faculties, for example at Forum Dança in Lisbon, in Montpellier , Vienna and at the Berlin University of the Arts . João Fiadeiro lives in Lisbon.
