João Villaret

João Henrique Pereira Villaret (born May 10, 1913 in Lisbon , † January 21, 1961 ) was a Portuguese actor .

Career

After graduating from the National Conservatory's theater school, he joined the theater company of Amélia Rey Colaço and Robles Monteiro . After 1944 he moved to the newly founded Ensemble Os Comediantes de Lisboa , by António Lopes Ribeiro and his brother Ribeirinho . He appeared in various movies and in numerous radio programs. With the advent of television in Portugal, he also appeared there. Here he was particularly noticeable with his literary readings and expressive poetry recitations in the RTP's Sunday program . To this day, numerous of these recordings of him are on the market as a sound carrier.

Villaret is still one of the most influential theater actors in Portugal. Raul Solnado named the Teatro Villaret he founded after him, and a secondary school in Loures bears his name.
