João Vasco de Paiva Raposo de Almeida , called João de Almeida (* 1928 in Lisbon ; † June 22, 2020 there ), was a Portuguese architect and painter .

João Paiva Raposo de Almeida studied architecture at the University of Porto . Together with the architects Nuno Portas and Nuno Teotónio Pereira, he was one of the founders of the Renewal Movement for Religious Art (MRAR) between 1950 and 1960, which shaped architecture and art in Portugal.

He was the architect responsible for the renovation of the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (MNAA) in Lisbon and the renovation of the Lisbon City Hall (Câmara Municipal de Lisboa). In 1990 he was awarded the “ Prémio Valmor e Municipal de Arquitectura ” and the “Menção honrosa do Prémio Valmor e Municipal de Arquitectura”.

He died at the age of 92 in June 2020 in Hospital de São Francisco Xavier in Lisbon due to several health problems.
