Jo Akepsimas

Jo Akepsimas (* 1940 in Athens ) is a Greek-French chansonnier and composer .

He has lived in France since 1958. Akepsimas studied philosophy, literature and music and received his doctorate with a thesis on Plato. Out of an interest in the Catholic liturgy and the theology on which it is based, Akepsimas has devoted himself entirely to worship music and liturgy since he was 28 years old . He created a very personal style that is characterized by chorale , jazz , blues , chanson and folklore . In 1968 Akepsimas released his first album: the mass "People, clap your hands". In his liturgical work he collaborates with renowned poets: Didier Rimaud , Claude Bernard , Raoul Mutin and repeatedly with Michel Scouarnec . He is the author of numerous new spiritual songs and children's songs. They are an integral part of Francophone church hymn books.

A second focus of his work is music for children. The focus is on folk and catechetical songs and the liturgy - especially religious ones . With Marie-Annick Rétif alias Mannick, Akepsimas created around 500 songs.
