First she decided to train as a drawing teacher at the Rijksnormaal School , which she graduated from in 1894. She then attended the Reich Academy in Amsterdam until 1900 . Her teacher was August Allebé . At the academy she became friends with Marie van Regteren Altena , Coba Ritsema and Lizzy Ansingh , among others . From 1897 she gave drawing lessons at the day painting school for a few years. In 1901 she worked for a short time at the Académie Julian in Paris , during which time she painted model studies, but also polder faces in the style of the Hague School . In 1901 their first and, for the time being, last exhibition was shown in the St. Lucas Artists' Association. In February 1901 she met the painter and etcher Marius Bauer while preparing a tableau vivant for the wedding of Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Heinrich . They married a year later. Stumpff continued to work for about a year, but then stopped drawing and painting. The couple traveled extensively, visiting Spain , Algeria , Thailand , India and the Dutch East Indies , among others . In 1916 the couple settled in Amsterdam. In 1921 Bauer-Stumpff and her husband stayed in Paris for a few months. During a stay in Java in the mid-twenties, Bauer-Stumpff continued drawing and, during this time, mainly portrayed her husband in watercolor and pastel. After Marius Bauer's death in 1932, she began to paint more and more.
