Jacoba Johanna (Coba) Ritsema (born June 26, 1876 in Haarlem , † December 13, 1961 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch portrait painter and member of the Amsterdamse Joffers .

Life

Jacoba Johanna Ritsema was born in Haarlem as the daughter of the printer Coenraad Ritsema and his wife Jeanette (Jannetje) Moulijn. There were several well-known artists in her family - her grandfather was an amateur painter, her father was a lithographer, and the painter and etcher Simon Moulijn was her mother's nephew. Between 1891 and 1893 she received drawing lessons at the School voor Kunstnijverheid in Haarlem and studied between 1893 and 1897 at the Reich Academy in Amsterdam, where she was taught by August Allebé , George Hendrik Breitner , Carel Lodewijk Dake , Fredrik Theodorus Grabijn , Jacob Ritsema (her brother) , Thérèse Schwartze and was taught by Nicolaas van der Waay .

Later she was the teacher of Grada Jacoba Wilhelmina Boks , Lize Duyvis , Jan the stallion , Tine Honig , Coba Surie , Henriëtte Tellekamp , Victoire Wirix and Gonda Wulfse .
