The Kunstenaarsvereniging Sint Lucas is a Dutch artist group re-established in 1881 and 1907 .

In short “St. Lucas ", also" Vereniging St. Lucas ", alternative spelling also Vereeniging or Kunstnaarsvereniging and named after the traditional Guilds of St. Luke , was founded in 1881 by Antoon Derkinderen , Jan Toorop , Jan Veth u. a., mainly from the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam as an exhibition community. 1880 is also mentioned as the year of foundation.

A re-establishment took place in 1907, it still exists today. The artists' association held a prominent position in art life up to the First World War , so its annual exhibition took place regularly in the Stedelijk Museum and was expanded from one hall to two halls. The group was stylistically not homogeneous, the Dutch artists felt themselves in a crisis after Impressionism and Post-Impressionism . From 1909 the luminists became strong within the association, so that some emigrated and last left in 1913 to found the Hollandse Kunstnaarskring . The more conservative members were referred to as the bruinen , the luminists as the blauwen or light shields . The members had established international contacts, so that today effects, especially through the luminists, on the artists of the Lower Rhine at the time can be determined. Around 1910 members also got together, from which the De Stijl art movement emerged in 1917 with its own manifesto.

Despite the migration, the artists' association continued to function as an exhibition platform. After the Second World War , she tried to keep the exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum, which was successful until 2007, after which exhibitions were held in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel .
