Hobbe Smith
Hobbe Smith (born December 7, 1862 in Witmarsum , † May 1, 1942 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch painter, watercolorist, etcher and lithographer
He began his artistic training in 1875 at the Quellinus School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam and continued it from 1880 to 1885 at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam under the direction of August Allebé , then at the drawing academy in Antwerp under the direction of Charles Verlat .
He created portraits, female nudes as well as cityscapes and seascapes.
He was a member of " Arti et Amicitiae " and " Sint-Lucasgilde " in Amsterdam and " Pulchri Studio " in The Hague. His students included Henri Braakensiek, Willem Kooiman, Herbert van der Poll, Anton Ludwig Reelfs and Johan Smith.
He participated in exhibitions in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and abroad.
In 1888 he received the Willink van Collenprijs . In 1917 he was awarded a gold medal by Queen Wilhelmina .
