Witmarsum ( West Frisian Wytmarsum ) is a place in the municipality of Southwest Fryslân ( province of Friesland ) in the north of the Netherlands . Until 2010 it was the administrative seat of the dissolved municipality of Wûnseradiel .
The small town with 1,735 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is the birthplace of Menno Simons, one of the founders of the Anabaptist movement that developed into the Mennonite Free Church .
