Thérèse Schwartze (born December 20, 1851 in Amsterdam , † December 23, 1918 there ) was a Dutch portrait painter .

Life

Thérèse Schwartze was the daughter of the painter Johann Georg Schwartze , who was also her first teacher in the art of painting. From 1873 to 1875 she attended the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. She studied in Munich with Gabriel Max and Franz von Lenbach . In 1879 she went to Paris, where she continued studying with Jean Jacques Henner . In 1881 she portrayed the royal family of the Netherlands. She was represented with works at the International Art Exhibition in 1904 in the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf . In 1906 she married the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad , Anton van Duyl. In 1883 she was a member of Arti et Amicitiae .
