Maria Elisabeth Georgina Ansingh , or Lizzy Ansingh for short (born March 13, 1875 in Utrecht ; † December 14, 1959 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch painter , draftsman and lithographer and member of the Amsterdamse Joffers .

Life

Lizzy Ansingh was born in Utrecht as the daughter of the pharmacist Edzard Willem Ansingh and Clara Theresia Schwartze. She was the granddaughter of the painter Johann Georg Schwartze and the niece of the painter Thérèse Schwartze , from whom she received her first drawing lessons. The painter Thérèse Peizel-Ansingh, known as Sorella, was her sister.

Between 1894 and 1897 she attended the Reich Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and was tutored by August Allebé , Nicolaas van der Waay and Carel Dake . A group of women artists was formed at the academy that later became known as the Amsterdamse Joffers . In addition to Ansingh, this consisted of Marie van Regteren Altena , Coba Ritsema , Ans van den Berg , Jacoba Surie , Nelly Bodenheim , Betsy Westendorp-Osieck and Jo Bauer-Stumpff .

Initially, Ansingh created small portraits and still lifes , later she switched to the representation of dolls and portrayed a variety of paintings with dolls as subjects. She also wrote two volumes of poetry, illustrated by Nelly Bodenheim .
