Joachim Buxmann (born August 19, 1933 in Gerdauen / East Prussia ; died December 27, 1996 ) was a German engineering scientist.

Career

After studying mechanical engineering in Hanover , Buxmann worked at Siemens-Schuckert in Mülheim as a calculation engineer for steam turbines . He then received his doctorate in Hanover with Karl Bammert at the Institute for Turbomachines. From 1966 he worked at MAN in Nuremberg as a senior engineer and department head in the research and development department with a focus on turbines , boilers and apparatus. In 1974 he was offered a professorship for thermodynamics and heat engineering at the Technical University of Hanover and became head of the institute for thermodynamics. In 1982 he was offered a position at the newly founded Technical University Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH), where he founded the technical thermodynamics department.

His special interests were the power plant processes and here the heat transfer systems, the combustion and the heat transfer in the steam generators . Among other things, he was a member and deputy chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Association of Large Power Plant Operators (VGB).

Joachim Buxmann died on December 27, 1996 at the age of 63.

Since 2002, the Rotary Club Hamburg has awarded the Joachim-Buxmann-Gedächtnis-Preis in memory of Professor Joachim Buxmann, who played a key role in the development of the TUHH.
