Joachim Krüger (Metallurgist)

Joachim Krüger (born June 16, 1933 in Eberswalde , Brandenburg ) is a German metallurgist and university professor . He comes from a Silesian family. His father was the engineer Max Krüger (1903–1971), who at the time worked for the Hirsch copper and brass works in Finow ( Finow brass works ). Joachim Krüger is married to Barbara geb. Pyrkosch (* 1936).

Career

After graduating from high school in 1951, Joachim Krüger completed a commercial apprenticeship at Boehringer in Ingelheim, then studied from 1954 to 1960 at the Institute for Metallurgy and Electrometallurgy (IME) at RWTH Aachen University with Helmut Winterhager . His doctorate in 1966 on the subject of vacuum metallurgy was followed by his habilitation in 1971 with a thesis on vacuum-technical extraction and refining of metals . From 1971 to 1977 Kruger was at the Metallgesellschaft belonging Lurgi active in Frankfurt am Main in the plant construction.

Initially a student of Helmut Winterhager , he became his successor in 1977 at the Chair of Metallurgy and Electrometallurgy (IME), which he held until his retirement in 1999. He headed the Metallurgy Institute with around 40 employees for around 22 years. His pupil Bernd Friedrich became his successor in 1999.

In 1978 and 1979, Krüger took over two professorial positions at the Montanuniversität Leoben ( Styria ). Furthermore, Krüger had given numerous lectures and lectures in Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, China, GDR, Finland, France, Great Britain, Japan, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Turkey and the USA.

Joachim Krüger was awarded the Georg Agricola commemorative coin in 2004.
