Joachim Kuhlemann (born April 26, 1962 ) is a German geologist.

After graduating from high school in 1981, Kuhlemann completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at Atlas Weyhausen in Delmenhorst and was taken over by the company in 1984. From 1984 he studied geology in Kiel and received his diploma there in 1990 with a thesis on the environmental conditions from the late Pleistocene after evaluating a drill core from the meteor from the North Atlantic (between Norway and Greenland). He also mapped for the diploma near Bach (Tyrol) (Sulzlalm). In 1994 he received his doctorate in Heidelberg with a dissertation on ores of the MVT type (Mississippi Valley Type) and their diagenesis in the Karawanken . As a post-doctoral student , he was at the University of Tübingen , where he became an assistant in 1999 and completed his habilitation on Alpine tectonics in 2001 (Post-Collisional geodynamic evolution of the Alps and the circum-Alpine region). In 2006 he became an adjunct professor there. He later worked in the main nuclear facility safety department of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI.

In his dissertation, he dealt with eastern Alpine MVT ore deposits, i.e. those of hydrothermal origin in calcite and dolomite. Later he also researched similar deposits in Elba , where these are also from the Miocene. They are related to the consequences of the drying up of the Mediterranean at the time. In 1996 he took part in a geological Pamir expedition and in Tübingen he dealt with sedimentological studies for the reconstruction of paleogeography and the prehistoric environmental conditions of the pre-alpine basins on the northern edge of the Alps. He examines minerals for their erosion history and thus reconstructs tertiary climatic conditions and tectonic history, apart from in the Eastern Alps, among others in Corsica (where he also examined traces of glaciation), southern France, the Carpathians , the Giant Mountains and Bulgaria.

He is the co-author of geological guides to Corsica and Elba.
