Joachim Moller the Elder (vom Hirsch) (born March 25, 1500 in Hamburg ; † October 1558 Ritzebüttel) was a merchant and councilor in Hamburg.

Act

As a Hamburg merchant, he was a member of the Hamburg England and Schonen Driver Society. On September 29, 1528 he became senior elder and on March 12, 1529 councilor in Hamburg. In this function he appeared several times as the city's envoy to royal courts and imperial cities. His mission in 1534, when he traveled to the Electorate of Saxony with Joachim Sommerfeld, deserves special mention. As a result of the mission, Hamburg became a member of the Schmalkaldic League . In 1549 he became a bailiff in Ritzebüttel, a strategically important outpost of Hamburg. After he had received a letter of nobility and coat of arms from King Henry VIII of England on September 27, 1538 and on May 25, 1541 from Emperor Charles V , he began to write the extensive gender book of his family "Dat Slechtbok". Around 1537 he began with the first notes, which were continued from 1541 by his son Joachim Moller the Younger . The older one continued to add additions by hand until around 1546. The entries were finally continued by the grandson Dr. Johann Moller until 1612. "Dat Slechtbok" gives an overview of family connections among the upper class of Hamburg's bourgeoisie in the 15th and 16th centuries. The original has been missing since the last war. In 1876 "Dat Slechtbok" was acquired by the archivist of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Dr. Otto Beneke revised and published. In 1546 Moller drafted the rules of the “Brandes Gosmann Foundation” for the will of Heinrich Brandes. His body was buried in the St. Abundus Church in Groden.

Moller married on May 8, 1519 in Hamburg with Anna Nigel, (born February 29, 1494, † April 1, 1574 in Hamburg), the daughter of councilor Joachim Nigel and Geske Bockholt. The marriage resulted in eleven children whom he had educated at German (Wittenberg, Rostock) and foreign universities (Padua, Ferrara). From the children we know:
