Life

Reitner received his diploma and doctorate from the University of Tübingen (1984). He completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin in 1991 and was appointed to the chair of geobiology at the University of Göttingen in 1994 .

Reitner studies the interaction between organisms (especially their metabolic processes) and abiotic factors. He is concerned with a. with biomineralization and the interaction between microbes and multicellular organisms ( metazoa ), e.g. B. symbiotic microbes from sponges or bio mats.

Since 1998 he has been a full member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen . From 2013 to 2015 he was President of the Paleontological Society .
