Joachim von Zanthier

Joachim von Zanthier (born August 30, 1964 in Nuremberg ) is a German experimental physicist and university professor who is currently doing research at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Life

After his Abitur in 1983 at the Karls-Gymnasium Munich, several trips through Asia and a short study of economics, he did his military service in the Military District Command VI in Munich. Subsequently, from 1986 on, he devoted himself to studying physics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He later continued his studies in Paris until he graduated with a doctorate under Alain Aspect . From 1996 to 2004 he worked in various positions as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Herbert Walther's group . Von Zanthier completed his habilitation in 2002 at the LMU in Munich, where he became a private lecturer . Since 2004 he has been a professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Von Zanthier's doctoral thesis deals with the amplification of evanescent waves through dielectric structures. His most cited works to date were done in Herbert Walther's group and dealt with cooling and precision measurements on trapped ions . His special research focus is currently on quantum phenomena, in particular imaging processes with quanta, classification of multi-particle entanglement and non-classical photon statistics and super radiancy .
