Joan Alcover i Maspons
Joan Alcover i Maspons (* 1854 in Palma ; † 1926 there ) was a Mallorcan poet , essayist and politician .
Life
He was a student of Josep Lluís Pons i Gallarza and a classmate of Miquel Costa i Llobera . Alcover belonged to the so-called art movement of the Escola Mallorquina .
Several of his works have been translated into various languages and published. His works include the Mallorcan hymn La Balanguera , with the music of Amadeu Vives , which has been interpreted by the singer Maria del Mar Bonet and the music groups Els Ocults , Ximbomba Atòmica and Chenoa , among others .
