Joan Amades

Joan Amades i Gelats (born July 23, 1890 in Barcelona , † January 17, 1959 there ) was a Catalan ethnologist and folklorist . Self-taught by training, he worked in the City History Archives of Barcelona and in the Museum of Crafts and Folk Art in the same city. From 1956 he worked with UNESCO . He was also an outstanding promoter of the Esperanto language and founded the Federació Esperantista Catalana ('Catalan Esperanto Association'). The book Costumari Català ('Collection of Catalan Customs') stands out from his great work , the main work on the exploration of Catalan popular culture .
