Joannis Malathounis

Joannis Malathounis (born August 3, 1963 in Stuttgart ) is a German chef .

Career

After his apprenticeship as a chef (1989–1991) at the Gasthof zum Ochsen in Kernen, Malathounis opened the restaurant Malathounis in Stuttgart and the 2-star restaurants Waldhorn in Ravensburg and St. Laurent in Paris after two years of further training at the Alte Post and the Hirsch wine taverns in Stuttgart Kernen in the Remstal in the district of Stetten, where he interprets Greek cuisine as "modern Greek cuisine".

Awards

Malathounis was named “Newcomer of the Year” by the restaurant guide Gusto in 2009 and the restaurant was named “Foreign Restaurant of the Year” by the Schlemmer Atlas 2011. The Gault-Millau rates the restaurant with 16 points. In November 2014, Malathounis was the world's first and so far only Greek restaurant outside of Greece to be awarded a star in the Michelin Guide . The magazine " Der Feinschmecker " describes the Malathounis as the best Greek restaurant in Germany.
