Joaquin La Habana

Joaquín La Habana (born August 30, 1952 in Havana , Cuba ) is a Cuban singer, dancer, entertainer and travesty artist.

La Habana emigrated to the United States as a child. In Boston he studied dance and theater and worked in films, for example in The Bronx with Paul Newman .

La Habana has lived in Berlin since 1982 ; he had roles in films by Rosa von Praunheim (1982: City of Lost Souls ; 1983/84: Horror Vacui ). His stage shows use his special talent to sing quickly in falsetto and in normal voice. With his own dance group he offers several tropical programs.

The artist is a priest in his religion, the Santeria , which has its roots in the syncretism of the Christian faith with the African religion of the Yoruba . Stylized elements of religious acts are included in his “gods performances”; He showed the typical altars of his religion in Berlin museums.
