Joaquín Varela , full name Joaquín Varela Romero , (born June 27, 1998 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.83 meter tall defensive player Varela has been a member of the Defensor Sporting youth team since 2011 . On February 14, 2016, he made his debut for the Montevideans in the Primera División , when he was ordered into the starting line-up by coach Juan Tejera on matchday 2 of the Clausura in the 1: 3 home defeat against Racing Club de Montevideo . Overall, he completed a first division game (no goal) in the 2015/16 season. During the 2016 season he was not used in the league. At the end of December 2016, he moved to Mexico to CF Pachuca .

National team

Varela played 19 games (two goals) for Uruguay's U-15s from 2012 to 2013. From 2014 to 2015 he was a member of the Uruguayan U-17 national team , for which he scored four goals in 24 international appearances. He was part of the Uruguayan squad at the U-17 South American Championship 2015 and was used eight times (no goal) during the tournament.
