Joaquim de Carvalho
Joaquim de Carvalho (born June 10, 1892 in Figueira da Foz , † October 27, 1958 in Coimbra ) was a Portuguese university professor and philosopher .
Life
He graduated from the University of Coimbra with a degree in law in 1914 and philology in 1915. The philologist, who received his doctorate in 1917 , became professor at the faculty in Coimbra in 1919 and took over the field of philological history. From 1921 to 1934 he was in charge of the university's press and publications and founded the Biblioteca Filosófica and the magazine Revista da Universidade de Coimbra , of which he was editor-in-chief, as well as the Inedita ac Rediviva collection . From 1927 to 1931 he was head of the university libraries.
His most important publications include António de Gouveia eo Platonismo da Renascença (German: António de Gouveia and the Platonism of the Renaissance ; doctoral thesis 1916), Leão Hebreu, filósofo (German: the philosopher Leo Hebraeus ; 1918) and various monographs , including the four-volume collection Estudos sobre a Cultura Portuguesa (German: Studies on Portuguese Culture; 1947–1955).
In 1932 he became a member of the Legion of Honor , and in 1989 he was posthumously awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Jacob of the Sword .
