Jochen A. Werner

Jochen Alfred Werner (born October 28, 1958 in Flensburg ) is a German doctor and hospital manager.

Life

Werner completed a degree in human medicine in Kiel. He completed his habilitation in the field of ENT medicine in 1993, became senior physician and in 1995 senior physician in charge. In 1998 he accepted the chair for ear, nose and throat medicine at the Philipps University of Marburg and headed the university's ENT clinic. During his activity as Dean of Studies at the Medical Faculty from 2004 to 2006, he accompanied the process of merging and privatizing the University Clinics in Gießen and Marburg and played a key role in the development of the Dr. Reinfried Pohl Center for Medical Education.

Werner dealt scientifically with the lymphatic system of the head and neck area, with questions about lymphogenic metastasis, malformations of the lymphatic and blood vessel system as well as transoral surgical procedures for cancers of the oral cavity, throat and larynx. His more than 300 publications focus on the early detection of lymph node metastases, the potential importance of tumor markers and innovative treatment techniques for advanced angiomas and oncological diseases in the head and neck area.

From 2011 Werner was Medical Director of the Marburg University Hospital and member of the management of the University Hospital Gießen und Marburg (UKGM) GmbH; from 2013 to 2015 he carried out this activity full-time. Also in 2011 he was accepted into the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (National Academy of Sciences). Since October 1, 2015, he has been Medical Director and Chairman of the Executive Board at the University Hospital Essen. On July 1, 2016, he was appointed to the board of directors of the Inselspital Foundation Bern, Insel Gruppe AG and Spital Netz Bern AG.

Together with his management team, Werner has been transferring the Essen University Medicine to a Smart Hospital since 2015 and has received several awards for this initiative. As a medical influencer, he is committed to accelerating digitization in the healthcare sector. Together with David Matusiewicz , Werner set up the Digi Health Talk YouTube channel .

Werner is married and has three children.
