Jochen Desel

Jochen Desel (born June 7, 1929 in Kassel ) is a German Protestant theologian and church historian .

Desel studied Protestant theology at the Philipps University of Marburg , where he received his doctorate with a thesis on The Lippoldsberg Monastery and its foreign possessions . After a stay in the USA and a position as an assistant pastor in Bad Emstal and pastoral positions in Lippoldsberg and Hofgeismar , he headed the evangelical church district Hofgeismar as dean .

Desels scientific commitment was mainly the history of the Huguenots in Hesse . He headed the German Huguenot Museum in Bad Karlshafen , founded in 1980 . In the years 1985–1999 Desel was also president, since then vice-president of the German Huguenot Society . Jochen Desel has been a member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 1997 . On May 26, 2009, Desel was awarded the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon for his services .
