Joachim "Jochen" Esser (born May 2, 1951 in Cologne ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and journalist. From 1991 to 1993 he was state chairman of the Berlin regional association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and from 1999 to 2016 a member of the Berlin House of Representatives .

education and profession

Esser obtained his Abitur in Cologne in 1970 and studied German and political science at the Free University of Berlin. He completed his studies in 1976 with the first state examination for high school teaching and received the second state examination in 1978. Jochen Esser was not admitted to the teaching post due to the radical decree. From 1978 to 1980 he trained as a printer and then worked as a printer and trainer until 1984. From 1994 to 1999 he worked as a journalist. In addition to his political activities, he works as a freelance journalist.

Party and politics

Jochen Esser is a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party and has been politically active in various functions since it was founded in 1980. From 1991 to 1993 he was state chairman and from 1997 to 1999 a member of the broadcasting council of Sender Free Berlin .

Esser was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives for the first time in the September 1999 election, to which he was a member until 2016. Most recently in parliament he was the spokesman for his group for the areas of budget and finance, as well as property. He was also the deputy chairman of the main committee and a member of other committees, including the investment management and controlling sub-committee and the asset management sub-committee.
