Jochen Hölzinger

Jochen Hölzinger (born August 9, 1942 in Ulm ; † July 9, 2015 in Remseck ) was a German ornithologist , botanist and herpetologist .

Life

Hölzinger grew up in Ulm and trained as a biology laboratory assistant after finishing school . Following his apprenticeship, he turned on his night school a high school and studied biology at the University of Tuebingen . In 1977 he received his doctorate there. He then worked at the Radolfzell ornithological station and in 1979 became regional manager of the German Association for Bird Protection (DBV).

In 1985 he was released from his professional commitments and worked on behalf of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg , the elfbändige fundamental work The Birds of Baden-Württemberg .

From 1966 on, Hölzinger published more than 500 scientific papers with a total volume of well over 8000 pages.

Together with Siegfried Künkele , he described two species of orchid .
