Siegfried Künkele

Siegfried Künkele (born March 27, 1931 in Mühlacker ; † June 17, 2004 in Gerlingen ) was a German lawyer and botanist who devoted himself in particular to the research of European-Mediterranean orchids . Its botanical author abbreviation is " S.Künkele ". His full name is Siegfried Heinrich Künkele.

Life

Siegfried Heinrich Künkele is the son of the Chief Postal Inspector Walter Künkele and his wife Luise, nee. Giebler. In 1936 the family moved to Stuttgart. Siegfried Künkele attended the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart. Then he studied law in Tübingen. He received his doctorate in 1958 with a constitutional thesis on Article 1 Paragraph 1 Clause 1 of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany under Günter Dürig . He married Anne Wenzel in 1952. They had three daughters, Carmen, Evi and Claudia.

As an assessor at the state property management, he was active for property purchases, from 1963 mainly for nature conservation purposes. As a ministerial advisor in various ministries in the state of Baden-Württemberg, he was able to combine his interest in European orchids with his job. He initiated the so-called basic works of Baden-Württemberg, in which the lichens, the fern and flowering plants, the large mushrooms, the locusts, the dragonflies, the mosses, the jewel beetles and stag beetles, the mammals, the moths and moths, the birds and the country's wild bees have been dealt with in full.

His interest in orchids initially focused on mapping the species in Baden-Württemberg. With the founding of the working group local orchids in Baden-Württemberg, he found volunteers. He wrote most of his publications together with the pharmacist and botanist Helmut Baumann . Later he expanded his interest to the European orchids, for whose nomenclature he worked out important bases. He also researched the lives of the early botanists Jacob Theodor , Carolus Clusius, and Leonhart Fuchs .

Siegfried Künkele died on June 17, 2004 with his family in Gerlingen. He is buried in Gerlingen near Stuttgart.
