Life

Jochen Hemmleb came to mountaineering through his father at the age of ten. From 1988 he began to work intensively on the history of ascent of Mount Everest, with a particular interest in the events during the British Mount Everest Expedition of 1924 .

In 1999 he was one of the initiators and organizers of the Mallory & Irvine Research Expedition to Mount Everest north side. During this expedition, the body of the Himalayan pioneer George Mallory , who had been missing since 1924, was found.

A second expedition followed in 2001, and finally a third and fourth expedition in 2010 and 2011, which were also on the trail of the events of 1924 (search for Andrew Irvine ).

In 2004 and 2006, Hemmleb was active with expeditions to Nanga Parbat and Broad Peak . During these expeditions, too, he devoted himself to important events and people in alpine history and published his reports in books.

Jochen Hemmleb lives with his family in Lana , South Tyrol.
