Jochen Kunath (born March 23, 1945 in Zeitz ) is a former German football player. In the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , he was active in the 1970s for BSG Chemie Böhlen .

Athletic career

In the 1963/64 season, Jochen Kunath, who had previously played for the fifth-class company sports community (BSG) progress West Leipzig, played his first games in the second-class GDR league for the BSG Stahl Lippendorf . In the 30 played point games he was used eight times and came thereby to a goal. The Lippendorfer league newcomers did not manage to stay up, so Kunath then had to continue his career in the Leipzig district league . From 1965 to 1967 he was called up for military service in the National People's Army for 18 months and during this time he played in the third-class city league of East Berlin for the army sports community Vorwärts Berlin . After his discharge from the army, Kunath joined BSG Chemie Böhlen in the 1967/68 season, which played in the Leipzig district league. With her he rose to the GDR league at the end of the season. As a regular player he played there with Chemie Böhlen for nine years, of the 218 point games during this period he played 180 games. In 1974 he was with the team for the first time league relay winner and was used in the promotion round to the league in all eight games. Böhlen could not qualify for the league, however. When Chemie Böhlen again won the season in 1977, Kunath had been injured for a few weeks and could not take part in the promotion round, in which his team reached the league promotion.

In his first league season 1977/78 Kunath was fully operational again and was used as a defender in 23 of the 26 point games. Newcomer Chemie Böhlen managed to stay up, so that Kunath could deny another league season. Called up again as a defender, he came on 21 missions in 1978/79, but then had to relegate his team back to the GDR league. There he played his last season in national game operations in 1979/80. With ten league games he was involved again in the renewed league promotion, but could no longer take part in the promotion games. At the age of 35, Jochen Kunath ended his career in high-class football. In total, he played 420 games in his career, 44 of which were in the league. Later he worked as a trainer, he led the BSG activist Borna in 1988 for promotion to the GDR league. In 2011 he became head of the football department at SV Chemie Böhlen.
