Jochen Martens

Jochen Martens (born June 10, 1941 in Jena ) was a zoologist at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He teaches there between 1976 and 2012.

His research projects included the formation of local dialects in the song of songbirds as an evolutionary factor, studies of biodiversity and speciation in the Himalayas in Nepal as well as the systematics and phylogeny of arachnids. He is particularly regarded as an expert on harvester species in the Eurasian region.

He received the Ornithologist Award in 2005.

Jochen Martens is namesake of him in July 2020 by Greta Thunberg named new genus and kind of harvestmen , Thunbergia gretae .
