Joe Cortez

Joe Cortez (born October 13, 1945 in New York City ) is an American - Puerto Rican boxing - referee .

Cortez was a very good amateur boxer and winner of the Golden Gloves during his youth. During the 1960s he went to Puerto Rico. Cortez has worked as a referee in professional boxing for years and has relocated his main residence to Las Vegas . He is regarded as an outstanding specialist in the scene who oversaw many world championship fights, which is why he became a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011 together with Mike Tyson and Julio César Chávez . His motto is “I am fair, but I am firm”, which means fair but firm.

In 2006, he played himself in the movie Rocky Balboa . He also had supporting roles as referee in the films I Spy and Knocked Out - A Powerful Friendship .
