Joe Poston

Joseph "Joe" Poston (also Doc Poston , born December 31, 1895 , † May 31, 1942 in Illinois ) was an American jazz musician ( alto saxophone , clarinet ).

Live and act

Poston played with Doc Cook from the mid-1920s and with Jimmie Noone's Apex Club Orchestra from 1928 to 1930 . He had no solo part in its sextet; rather, his job was to constantly play the melody behind Noone, both in ensemble playing and in Noone's clarinet solos. He also worked on river steamers at Fate Marable . During this time, recordings were also made with Freddie Keppard ( Cookie's Gingersnaps ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 32 recording sessions between 1924 and 1930.
