Joep Bertrams

Joep Bertrams (born March 7, 1946 in Roermond ) is a Dutch political cartoonist who lives and works in Amsterdam .

life and work

Bertrams was born in Roermond in 1946 and graduated from the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in 1972 .

His professional career began with illustrations in union magazines .

In 1977 he started writing and illustrating children's books . He illustrated works by the Dutch children's book authors Karel Eykman , Veronica Hazelhoff , Imme Dros and Henri van Daele .

Bertrams was a lecturer at the AKI in Enschede for a long time .

Bertrams worked as a political cartoonist for the daily newspaper Het Parool from 1988 to 2011 . He has been drawing for the weekly De Groene Amsterdammer since 2011 .

Since 2004 he has been producing animated political cartoons, which are shown weekly in the political magazine NOVA of the Netherlands 3 television channel.

In Germany, Joep Bertrams' political drawings can occasionally be seen in Die Zeit and the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

Awards

  • 2005: Winner of the Inktspotprij for political cartoons
  • 2002: Ton Smits penning the Dutch cartoonists' association De Tulp for his life's work
  • 1989: Zilveren Penseel for the children's book Johan Edelgans
  • 1986: Zilveren Penseel for the illustration of the children's book Salamanders vangen by Wiel Kusters .
