history

In 1910 Johann Friedrich Behrens founded an import and export company in Hamburg that also produced staples itself. After the Second World War , the two entrepreneurs Carl Backhaus and Hans Rodmann bought the remains of the company and set up a factory for stapling machines and staples in Ahrensburg. In doing so, they introduced a new type of employee participation model that gave employees extensive rights of co-determination; it later became known as the Ahrensburg model .

Based on the model of a device made in the USA, BaE developed and marketed its first own compressed air nailer in the 1950s. The number of employees rose in this decade from 30 to 167, in the 1970s further to over 500. In 1975 the Joh. Friedrich Behrens Aktiengesellschaft was established , which went public two years later.

In 2010, around 400 people were employed at the headquarters in Ahrensburg. The group also had sales and service companies in sixteen other countries.
