Johan Bravo
Johan Bravo , also Josva Bravo or Brauer (born September 3, 1796 in Altona ; died April 29, 1876 in Rome ) was a German-Danish painter and diplomat who worked in Rome.
Life
Johan Bravo was the son of Sephardic parents in Altona. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1816 to 1818 . After that he made his way to Rome in 1826, where he first created brochures that were shown in Copenhagen in 1831/32. He was appointed Danish art agent and in 1847 as consul Danish diplomat in Rome. In 1855 he was also active as consul for Sweden. Bravo was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Rome, where his grave is preserved with a portrait relief made in 1876 by the Danish sculptor Johannes Hoffmann .
