Andreas Røder

Andreas Røder , also Andreas Röder (born July 16, 1873 in Kolding ; died 1948 ) was a Danish art historian .

Life

Røder was the son of the general manager Thorvald Emil Adolf Røder († 1905) and his wife Karen Kristine (born Ørum, † 1884). Since August 17, 1901, he was married to Johanne Emilie from Grevinge, the daughter of the teacher Lauritz Biilmann. They had 5 children. Page's younger sister Marie (* 1882) married his brother-in-law the forester Holger Biilmann (* 1877) in 1908.

After graduating as Candidatus Philosophiæ at the University of Copenhagen in 1893, he went on a study trip to Germany in 1900 and in 1901 became an assistant at the library of the Art Academy in Copenhagen. He worked there until 1914. In 1908 he was secretary of the academy school board and from 1911 to 1914 treasurer of the academy. In 1915 he was director of the Art Academy and Charlottenborg Palace . In particular, Røder published numerous smaller lexicon articles.

From Volume 1, 1907 to Volume 17, 1924 he worked for the General Lexicon of Fine Artists from Antiquity to the Present and wrote articles on Danish artists. Until Volume 12, 1920 he was responsible for editing the articles on Danish artists. His contributions include articles on Danish artists such as Wilhelm August Christian Abel , Peter von Bauditz , Carl Bille , Johann Jacob Bruun, Thomas Brunn and Joachim Johann Friedrich Bünsow . He wrote an essay on Nicolai Abraham Abildgaard . From June 1, 1915 to April 30, 1916 he was inspector and director of the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen . Together with Peter Johansen and L. Laursen, Røder created a register of the letter archive of the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen .
