Peter Jakob Frederik von Bauditz (born July 29, 1817 in Copenhagen , † April 30, 1864 in Flensburg ) was a Danish officer and sculptor.

Life

Peter von Bauditz came from the Danish branch of the family. He was the son of the future Danish major general Carl Gustav Heinrich von Bauditz (1780-1849) and his wife Sofie Dorothea Frederikke (née Jahn, 1786-1848). As a soldier he took part in both wars in Schleswig-Holstein, most recently as a major and regimental commander. He was wounded in the battle of the Düppeler Schanzen and was taken prisoner of war in Prussia, in which he died in the hospital in Flensburg. He was buried in the Kirkegård garrison in Copenhagen.

His artistic output was limited by his military career. Bauditz attended the Royal Danish Art Academy from 1838 to 1840 and worked in the workshop of Herman Wilhelm Bissen . He was mainly active as a small sculptor and specialized in poltergeists , goblins and gnomes , which he carved out of wood or ivory. He cut cameos from designs by Bertel Thorvaldsen . Works by him are in the possession of many museums in Denmark. Among other things, he was interested in flowers and animal breeding. After his death, a pelargonium was named "Souvenir de Peter Bauditz" after him.
