Johan Christian Peterson (* around 1700 ; † around 1745 ) was a Swedish painter.

Life

Peterson became a master painter in Jönköping in 1727 . He is known for his work on the painting of Habo church from 1741 to 1743, which he carried out together with Johan Kinnerus and which is still preserved today. The ceiling paintings The Baptism and The Blessing come from him . The image of the Creed below the ceiling of the church gallery there and other details of the rich furnishings are also attributed to him.

His style is described as being influenced by the rococo that was emerging at the time . He used a light but subdued color scheme. He was not involved in any other church designs.
