Johan Corthals
Johan Corthals (born August 6, 1948 in Brussels ) is a Belgian Celtologist and Indo-Europeanist .
Life
From 1967 to 1972 he first studied Classical Philology and then Oriental Studies in Leuven and obtained the degree of a Licentiate in Classical Philology and Oriental Studies. After a brief teaching position in Brussels , he went to the University of Vienna and began studying Indo-European Studies. After a brief period as a teacher, he continued studying Indo-European studies in Freiburg im Breisgau with Oswald Szemerényi , where he also got to know Celtology. From 1976 he worked at the Institute for Comparative Linguistics at the University of Hamburg as a research assistant. He received his doctorate in 1979 under Professor Hans Hartmann with a critical edition of two old Irish stories. Then did research at the School of Celtic Studies of the Institiúid Ard-Léinn Bhaile Átha Cliath . From 1981 to 2014 he taught as a professor in Hamburg .
