Johan Fredrik Berwald
Johan Fredrik Berwald (born December 4, 1787 in Stockholm ; † August 26, 1861 there ) was a Swedish composer .
Life
In addition to his cousin Franz Berwald , he is considered to be the most important composer from the Berwald family , who produced musicians and composers over several generations. He lived as a traveling violin virtuoso. From 1803 to 1812 he worked in Saint Petersburg , most recently as concertmaster of the Imperial Court Orchestra. From 1815 he was concertmaster and from 1823 court conductor in Stockholm.
He composed operettas and vaudevilles , string quartets and violin concertos, a string quintet, orchestral works, violin sonatas, cantatas and romances.
