Johan Holten

Johan Holten (* 1976 in Copenhagen ) is a curator from Denmark .

Life

Johan Holten is trained dancer and was from 1994 to 1998 as a group of dancers of the Hamburg dance company of John Neumeier to. He then worked as a set designer and artist until he studied art history and cultural studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which he graduated in 2006. He wrote his thesis on the history of curating exhibitions.

In 2006 he became director of the Heidelberg Art Association . Since 2009 he has been chairman of the German Art Association . In 2011 he became director of the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden . Here he curated his first exhibition Taste in 2011 . The good, the bad, and the really expensive .

Johan Holten has been the director of the Kunsthalle Mannheim since 2019 .

Prizes and awards

  • 2006: ADKV-ART COLOGNE Prize for art associations
  • 2013: Justus Beer Prize for curators together with Friedrich Meschede .
