Johan Jakob Ehrensvärd

Johan Jakob Ehrensvärd (née Schäffer; born May 11, 1666 in Åbo ; † October 6, 1731 at Carlsten Fortress , Sweden ) was a Swedish military man.

Life

Ehrensvärd began in 1685 as an assistant in the artillery and took part in the campaigns of Charles XII. in the Great Northern War . Ehrensvärd was captured during the Battle of Poltava , but was able to free himself and then took part in the Battle of Helsingborg as captain of the artillery . In 1712 he was appointed major and due to his services in the defense of Wismar , he received the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1715. In 1718 Ehrensvärd followed the king on his campaign in Norway . He was on watch than Karl XII. was fatally hit by a bullet. Ehrensvärd had already been raised to the nobility in 1717, whereupon he changed his name, but the nobility letter was not issued until 1719. In the same year he was promoted to colonel and command post at Carlsten Fortress.

His son Augustin Ehrensvärd became known as the builder of Sveaborg Fortress .
