Johan Sjöberg (born November 10, 1980 in Borås ) is a former Swedish football player . The defender won the Swedish championship with IF Elfsborg in 2006 , but had to end his active career at the age of 30 due to injury.
Career
Sjöberg began playing football at Mariedals IK before joining the youth team at IF Elfsborg . For the club from his hometown Borås he ran in the Allsvenskan and was able to establish himself as a regular in the defense at the beginning of the millennium. At times he was the team captain of the south-west Swedish club. In the 2006 season , in which he and his team won the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish national championship, he only made five season appearances due to injury. After losing his regular place due to the injury break, he left the club on loan to Fredrikstad FK in the summer of the following year . In the Tippeligaen he was one of the club's regulars, but returned to Sweden at the end of the loan period.
After his return to IFE, Sjöberg was still only one of the substitute players and was mostly on the substitute bench without being substituted on. After staying for a long time without playing, he moved to league rivals Örgryte IS on loan in June 2009 to help the bottom of the table in the relegation battle. He was only able to support the club in two games, however, as he complained of stomach pain and a tumor was diagnosed at the end of August.
After the end of his loan period, Sjöberg returned to IF Elfsborg and crowned his comeback in a preparatory game with a goal. A short time later injured again, he celebrated his comeback in August 2010 in the reserve team, for which he subsequently appeared. However, his bruised knee proved to be unable to bear loads, and it was not possible to run into the Allsvenskan. In the summer of 2011, he then announced his retirement, but remained connected to the club in administrative work.
