Johann Adam Heckel (born July 14, 1812 in Adorf / Vogtland , † April 13, 1877 in Biebrich ) was a German musical instrument maker .

Heckel reformed the style of the bassoon in 1830 . In 1831 he founded the company Almenräder und Heckel , the predecessor of Wilhelm Heckel GmbH, together with Carl Almenräder . They developed the Heckel Almenräder bassoon . With this bassoon, the uneven quality of some bassoon tones could be eliminated, which had been particularly disturbing in the higher sharp keys (A, E, B). However, a certain loss in overall sound had to be accepted. After the death of his partner Almenräder, Johann Adam Heckel continued to run the jointly built instrument factory on his own. His son Wilhelm Heckel(1856–1909) was later able to make up for the loss of sound of the Heckel Almenräder bassoon and invented the Heckelphone together with his son Wilhelm Hermann Heckel (1879–1952) .
